The Missing Painting

Detective Sarah examined the empty gallery wall. The priceless Monet had vanished during the gala.

"Security footage?" she asked the director.

"Erased," he whispered nervously.

Sarah noticed wet paint on his cuff. She studied the wall, running her finger along fresh brushstrokes hidden under the gallery lights.

"You didn't steal it," Sarah said quietly. "You painted a forgery to replace it. Then someone stole your fake."

The director's face paled.

"The real Monet is already gone," Sarah continued. "You were the thief's unwitting accomplice."

He slumped in defeat, understanding his clever plan had failed spectacularly.
